Decided to go out and do some street candid shots today.
Current favoured camera settings: 28mm(equiv) focal length, manual exposure, manual focus set to 3ft at f5.6-8.
‘Get in quick!”
Just a quick post of a few things that caught my eye this morning. The fourth shot is today’s ‘Images not words’ picture.
‘Impression in rain’
Taken while I was sitting in the car waiting for my son to finish Saturday art club.
The rain started to come down, so I thought I’d get some impressionistic shots through the wet car window of people passing by.
To get the look I wanted I set the focus manually to about 4ft. This way the camera was neither focused on the window nor the people and buildings, giving a sort of swirly paint look.
Best viewed at a slight distance. Or for some, maybe not at all hehe.
Nonetheless, it’s fun to experiment.
Lola’s ghost (7 Images)
I took a brief wander around a few streets earlier today and came across this little gem. A decaying independent ice cream van!
This is my kind of heaven, photographically speaking.
Unfortunately I could not get a head on shot as there was a car parked right in front, just inches away. Not much to see on the inside either as it’s filled to the brim with crap.
Oh, and if you were thinking of looking up the web address seen on the rear of the van, don’t bother. It’s a long gone site that is currently occupied by a placeholder with porn links! Such a shame.
Gone but no longer forgotten.

So, it seems that everyday is now turning into a challenge to nab something for my 366 project ‘Images not words’. Some days are proving to be more difficult than others. So far in this month of February, I’ve had less time to get out and about with my camera, often coming home with little or nothing I feel worthy of posting. I guess this is all part and parcel of what it’s all about. On these occasions I’ve decided to use it as an opportunity to set up a quick tabletop lighting study to hone my flash photography skills. The pictures may not be that interesting to others but I’m finding it a useful exercise nonetheless.
This past Thursday however, I found myself with the opportunity to grab a decent lunch hour. So, with camera in hand and the sun shining brightly I decided to go for a brief walk around Pevensey castle and a nearby churchyard.
It was a welcome break and certainly helped blow away some cobwebs from my addled brain.
I got a few shots I was happy with to boot, including shot number 42 of ‘Images not words’. The rest are pictured below.
More pics below.
Grabbed a quick twenty minutes photography after dropping my wife at the train station.
The light looked really promising, there way no way I was going to miss it.
I headed straight for Hastings old town and the beach where the fishing fleet resides. Light changes fast, there was no time to lose.
Grabbed my trusty little Fuji X10, my carry everywhere camera, and went about snapping as fast as I could getting the best compositions I could find.
Twenty minutes later and the best of the light gone, I headed back home to sort out the kids for school.
Posted one for Images not Words, below are the best of the rest.
